Bhutan Space Week 2022 calls for teacher proposals
Bhutan Space Week (BSW) 2022 is calling for proposals for space-related activities from teachers across the country. A committee will select six proposals, each of which will receive a grant of 100,000 Nu.
BSW is an annual one-week space promotion, awareness and education event observed from February 17-23. It was launched in 2020 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the birth of His Majesty the King.
Focal agent for BSW, Yeshey Choden, said the main objective of the teacher call for proposals is to encourage youth participation. “To get in touch with young people, it is important to launch a call for projects from their teachers.
She said that due to the important role of the teaching profession and the efforts of teachers to educate young people about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), the BSW team decided to donate the opportunity for our teachers to contribute this year. . “We hope all teachers take this opportunity and present their innovative ideas for observing BSW 2022.”
The first BSW was celebrated in Thimphu by bringing together participating students from different dzongkhags, and last year BSW was celebrated virtually using online mass media and social media platforms.
The award is not specific to the school and teachers from across the country, in groups of three to five, can offer space-related activities centered around the BSW 2022 theme: “Space Inspires”.
Yeshey Choden said the proposal should consist of at least two activities related to space, astronomy, rocket science and space science or technology.
She said the immediate goal of the Teachers’ Award initiative was to bring together no less than 350 participants per celebration, spread over a week, and that the celebrations should be full of fun and learning. “Space science and technology can be used as an inspiration to engage our young people in STEM. “
She said the proposal review committee will ensure the celebrations are well distributed geographically so that every young person has the opportunity to participate and the celebrations can involve the school and local communities. “Students can participate in the celebrations nearby. “
During this time, the last day for proposal submission is November 22, and selected proposals will be announced on December 1.
Yeshey Choden said that in the long term, the BSW Teacher Award should become a platform for our innovative and diligent teachers to contribute to STEM education in their own capacities.
