peacefully at home on September 14, 2021. She was 95 years old. She was born on December 1, 1925 in San Francisco, California, the daughter of Irish immigrant parents who came to the United States in the early 1900s. Mary grew up and was surrounded by a large extended Irish Catholic family in San Francisco, including her kept the happy memory of the many joyous occasions, filled with dance and love, for the rest of his life.

At sixteen, Mary met John J. Savage who was then at the University of Santa Clara. After John returned from World War II with the Army’s 10th Mountain Division, they married on January 19, 1946 and settled in Santa Clara, California. The first of six children, John Michael Savage, was born later that year. Soon followed Marianne, Barbara, Margaret (Peggy) and Loretta. 1960 saw a new adventure for the family when they moved to Hawaii where the last of Mary’s children was born, Theresa. Throughout this time, Mary has worked tirelessly as a housewife and mother to her six children as well as constant support to her husband John in his career, where her prodigious organizational skills and endless energy. were fully highlighted.

In 1967, the family moved again to Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was here that Mary was able to express herself more fully, including through her volunteer work with the Auxiliary at St. Joesph Hospital (later Lovelace Hospital) and the Albuquerque Relief League. She volunteered with the hospital auxiliary for over 46 years, becoming its president for a time and later finding her every Tuesday, as a beloved presence in the recovery room / la patient waiting area. With the Assistance League, she also worked for over 45 years during which she held many positions within the Chapter, then worked only at the Blue Portal in the Old Town, for which she was instrumental. in initial planning and development. For this vast volunteer work, she has received numerous awards. Finally, Mary also greatly enjoyed the years she spent traveling North America with her husband and a group of travelers in an RV, as well as the weekly square dancing.

Mary will be remembered as a defining force, the hub of the “Savage” wheel and its cohesive foundation. His love for his family was beyond measure, and with the exception of his very later years, birthdays and occasions were always remembered, cards being a constant. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John in 1995 and dear granddaughter Stephanie Cole in 2001. She is survived by John M. (Marien) Savage of San Ramon, CA, Marianne Barnes and Barbara ( Dwight) Cole of Albuquerque, NM, Peggy Savage Ryan of Denver, CO, Loretta (Casey) Ogino of Los Angeles, CA, and Theresa Savage Cooper of NY, along with 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A rosary will be held in his memory at the French Funeral Home at 7121 Wyoming Ave on September 20, 2021 at 6 p.m. Her funeral will be held at Notre-Dame-de-l’Annéquence Catholic Church on September 21, 2021 at 10:30 am. A private funeral will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Albuquerque, NM in memory of Mary or to the Little Sisters of Poor in Gallup, NM.
