Road closures in the French Quarter begin Monday
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – On Friday, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works announced that Hard Rock Construction will pour concrete pavement in the 700 block of Conti Street starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, October 4 , if time allows it.
This work is part of a $ 2.4 million in-depth reconstruction project in block 700 of rue Conti between rue Bourbon and rue Royal.
Block 700 on rue Conti has been closed since crews began replacing underground utilities in March. In anticipation of the pouring of the first half of the roadway, Hard Rock Construction will close blocks 300 and 400 of rue Bourbon, as well as block 800 of rue Conti to vehicular traffic in order to position a concrete truck at the intersection. de Bourbon and Rues Conti. These closures will be in place from 8 a.m. to noon.
At the end of the first half of the casting and the reopening of blocks 300/400 on rue Bourbon and block 800 on rue Conti, Hard Rock Construction will close blocks 300 and 400 on rue Royal to vehicular traffic in order to position a concrete truck at the intersection of Conti and Royal streets.
Blocks 300 and 400 of Rue Royal will then remain closed to vehicular traffic for approximately a week to allow crews to complete the utility works and granite curbs at the intersection of Rue Royal and Rue Conti.
The teams replaced and enlarged the existing drainage pipes and sumps in the 700 block of rue Conti, replaced the existing water pipes and repaired and / or replaced the existing sewer pipes. Entergy Gas and Entergy Electric replaced the existing low pressure gas lines with high pressure gas lines and replaced and / or repaired the existing underground electrical conduit banks. Once the pavement has been poured, followed by an estimated curing time of three days and four days for the installation of the granite curbs, the fence will be removed so that foot traffic can move towards the pavement while the contractor starts replacing sidewalks and adding Americans with disabilities. Access ramps that comply with the law (ADA) at intersections.
Block 600 of rue Conti between rue Royal and rue Chartres was initially included as part of this project, however, it has been removed and will be the subject of an offer as part of a separate project in a later date. Entergy Gas and Entergy Electric are in the process of completing their utility upgrades in this block.
Block 700 of the Conti Street project, designed by Mott McDonald, LLC, is scheduled to run through early November 2021. Project partners include Entergy Electric, Entergy Gas, Cox Communications and AT&T.
